Road Minister Baroness Vere said local authorities’ transport plans will need to define “how quantifiable carbon reductions will be achieved” and that funding will be “dependent on whether these plans are robust, ambitious and achievable” .

The Office of Zero Emission Vehicles is already working extensively with local authorities to help them provide charging infrastructure and the upcoming EV charging station infrastructure strategy will define the roles and responsibilities of local authorities and energy companies to ensure this transition.

“The government is also producing a decarbonization toolkit and this will provide additional guidance to local authorities on how to ease the transition to zero emission vehicles.”
