Rajasthan: Farmer Who Couldn’t Repay Bank Loan Attempts Suicide | Ajmer News

BANDANWARA (AJMER): A 38-year-old farmer allegedly attempted suicide in Kumahariya village near Bandanwara on Friday night for being “socially disgraced” due to non-payment of bank loans
However, Laddu Gujjar (38), who had taken a loan of Rs 1.20 lakh by Kisan credit card by giving up his 30 bighas of land, was rescued by his friends.
Gujjar received a repayment notice of Rs 2.38 lakh, which also stated that if he was unable to repay the loan, his land would be auctioned on January 19.
“He was extremely disturbed that the auction notice was posted all over the village including the computer center of gram panchayat. Due to insufficient rain, he lost his crops. Also due to health problems, he had been on treatment for a long time, but the bank called him regularly,” says Kannha Gujjar, a friend of the victim.
He has three children including a daughter. “He was getting continuous warnings from the bank. He tried to hang himself on Friday night, but his friend Kannha Gujjar and others reached him and knocked him down,” said Sohan Gujjar from the village.
Meanwhile, District Collector Ansh Deep has sent a team to investigate the matter.
The district magistrate said the clawback issue is old news as new state government guidelines have already been issued.
